It was a tough game to begin with, a couple of boys let us down and we were not able to find a ref. But the boys who did show up really showed their worth. A huge shout out goes to the Ravens team who kindly lent us some players and reffed the game.

Within the first 10 minutes we were able to put 2 tries past Ravens. Some great pick and goes and support play allowed us to glide through Ravens defence like butter. Some questionable referring decisions allowed Ravens to gain some ground in our half of the pitch, which allowed them to get a couple tries.

Unfortunately the half got called early due to Harry Johnson having his nose rearranged on his old Coops debut, along with a head injury on our team. Leaving us with 10 players for the second half, once again through the sportsmanship and comradery of Ravens players who swapped teams to allow the game to go on.

As the second half started some strong and powerful play from Keylian once again allowed the Purps to gain some much needed territory in Ravens 22, and some top notch defensive play allowed us to win decisive penalties. We used one of these penalties to our advantage and took the scrum, from which I took the ball from the back and was able to charge over to get us another try.

As the game progressed Ravens picked up a couple injuries which led to the boys they lent from us having to go back to their own club. At one point within the game it was 14 against 10 but we did not complain, all we wanted to do was play rugby. With the overlaps that Ravens had they cleverly used this to their advantage and were able to pick up a couple tries and build their lead.

Within the last 5 minutes of the game we refused to give up and some great play through the hands allowed Keylian to bash through the Ravens defence and score our last try.

Overall I’m so grateful and proud of the boys who turned up today, they gave it their all and we really have an unbelievable group of talented boys who are already or will be knocking on the door of the first team. Each one of them showed their passion and what it means to play for Old Coops.

I’m also thankful to Ravens for being such good sports and assisting me in this situation we look forward to the reverse fixture.

I just need all the boys to show their availability and spread the news of game day. The more the merrier and we do not care if it’s the first time you have ever picked up a rugby ball or if you’re ex professional we will treat you the same. All we care about is playing and enjoying rugby.
